A Look At Tupelo's Own.
A LOOK AT TUPELO'S OWN.

Just another cheap old compilation of some live recordings from 1956................Don't you bet on it.
One week today will see the release of the third release from the Memphis Recording Service. This time it is of course 'Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley', and is it worth buying?
The simple answer is a resounding YES! YES! YES!

Here Is The Promo video for the upcoming Memphis Recording Service "Tupelo's Own" set.The Film:
The producer, Joseph Pirzada has done something rather simple (why it had not been done before is beyond me), he approached Fox, agreed a price and was given access to their filmed footage of Elvis' historic concert in Tupelo on September 26th 1956. The result is here, 13 minutes of footage compiled and edited together to give us at last, half a century later, the first Elvis Presley concert on DVD from 1956 with sound.
When we first watched it we found ourselves being disappointed? Disappointed in the fact that why didn't Fox film the whole show.............But to make up for that we just watched it again, and again, and again!
Also on the DVD is previously unseen footage of the Tupelo welcomes Elvis Presley home parade along with backstage footage all overdubbed with interviews with Vernon, Gladys, Nick Adams, Judy Hopper and of course Elvis himself.
There is also a great previously unheard interview with Elvis and Anita Wood conducted in Tupelo in 1957 with a very funny moment when Elvis is asked about his love life. The interview is complimented by film and photos from September 27th 1957 in Tupelo.
Another added bonus is 48 seconds of the only known home movie footage (in colour) of the evening show from 1956 with Elvis in his red shirt.
The Audio:
Over 51 minutes, 21 tracks from the afternoon and evening shows of September 26th 1956. The audio has been remastered and restored by Real Bouwman and Mick Ritchie and while we think there is just a slight improvement on the afternoon show, the evening show does sound better than the RCA release in 1984.
All the tracks are complimented by many rare and unpublished photographs from the performances.
The Book:
B-E-A-utiful..............Written by Roy Turner, the book features over 160 pages with hundreds of some of the most amazing photos from the Tupelo concerts and back stage. We are all familiar with the grainy newspaper picture of Elvis in the line up of kids from the 1945 talent show, well we get it here for the first time direct from the original photo, crystal clear showing a grumpy looking little Elvis complete with glasses.
We cannot praise this release enough.............It is an essential addition to every fans collection and once again proves how often BMG and EPE actually miss the boat. A project like this could have been done years ago but thank God for the folks at the Memphis Recording Service for giving us this great release.
I know one thing, fans will be keeping an eye open to see what the Memphis Recording Service come up with next.........Pied Piper? Hawaii 61? Movie Out-takes? Time will tell.

Review Of Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley!
Review Of Tupelo's Own Elvis Presley!

Here Is The Promo video for the upcoming Memphis Recording Service "Tupelo's Own" set.
This is sensational, what a treat for 2007.
I can't believe that the naysayers and other supposedly knowledgable members of a board (Fecc) were out giving this AMAZING book/DVD a slagging off before it was even released.
It's pathetic - and only reminds me of the last MRS 'The Rise Of Elvis Presley' package which the same people were bad-mouthing - yet they didn't even own a copy!
When you look at the list of people involved in this Tupelo package it can hardly need a review.
These are just a few of them...
Keith Flynn, Scotty Moore, D J Fontana, Joseph A Tunzi, Bud Glass, Russ Howe, Steve Barille, John Heath, Judy Hopper, Jamie Aaron Kelly, Andylon Lensen , Bruce Maltz, Ger Rijff, Jimmy Velvet, Terry Wood, and Fox Movietonews Inc, Authors Pat Broeske & Elaine Dundy.
Roy Turner also dedicates the book to Elaine Dundy.
The following Elvis childhood friends and acquaintances were also involved. James Ausburn, David Baker, Sam Bell, Jimmy Gault, Shirley Jones Gillentine, Hugh Jeffreys, Bitsey Savery, Rev. Frank Smith
The book captures the story and the history of Elvis in Tupelo with fantastic unseen photos and nice writing from Roy Turner.
I mean a few weeks ago were people on the board (Fecc) really complaining about a COLOURISED PHOTO!!!!!!????
Good grief - get a life!
Here is UNSEEN LIVE CONCERT FOOTAGE and IT ROCKS!
And, in fact the colourised front cover is SUPERBLY done.
Nearly all the songs are complete.
'I Was The One' is a dream.
How different to see 'Don't Be Cruel' & 'Heartbreak Hotel' etc being played to a hometown crowd of 8,000 instead of a TV studio audience.
Seeing Elvis in action also adds the knowledge to open-up your own experience of listening to the poorly recorded concerts that we have always known. Elvis' side-comments, his off-the-cuff microphone technique while he moves around all make sense now.
My god, even a cameraman walks up behind Elvis and asks him a question while he is singing!!!
The full clip of Judy Hopper coming on stage while Elvis is singing is great too.
So, 'I Got A Woman' might not be complete but the small amount of footage that J Pirzada & MRS have found is SENSATIONAL!!!
Elvis is rocking in the hot sun. I had to replay it several times immediately.
The new interviews with Anita Wood, as well as Judy Hopper, are a fabulous touch as well - and of course all the Tupelo Welcome Home Parade footage works excellently as a build up to the main attraction.
Buy it - and make sure you get the book along with it - you will NOT be disappointed.
My ONE BIG complaint - only 13 minutes . . . . it breaks my heart. . . why, oh why, didn't they film the whole show!!!
Elvis fans have to give big, big thanks to Joseph Pirzada for this great release.
Cheers
Piers - EIN.
