A MOMENT IN TIME – 4 DAYS IN ‘56

A book by Michael Rose, this time with no audio component, as the relevant music is available on Sony’s “YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT”. Author and producer Michael Rose has assembled a most stunning glimpse of Elvis’ life in 1956.

Through literally hundreds of photos - many previously unpublished - we get to join Elvis at his show in Detroit on May 25. We stay with the tour for two more days in Columbus and Dayton and finally arrive in Memphis on May 28. Rose has interviewed people who attended the shows, found original newspaper coverage, chosen and organized the many photos, and arranged it all as a fascinating travel log.

This is the Elvis that country legend Bob Wills aptly described as a “punk”, before controversy and Hollywood toned him down. The perfect companion to Sony’s new box set, “YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT” (a few of the photos in the box set, including the front, actually comes from this book).

Ist die Elvis is Back Vinyl tatsächlich nur eine Vinylausgabe der CD Version? Ich hab gerade die CD nicht zur Hand, kann das mal einer checken? Allerdings wäre es ja ein starkes Stück, wenn eine FTD Ausgabe nur auf Vinyl erscheinen würde...ich sammel nämlich kein neues Vinyl...

Ich habe jetzt nicht jeden Track gegengecheckt, aber so wie's aussieht, findet sich auf der Vinyl-Ausgabe lediglich ein Teil der Outtakes, die es auf der CD gab. Es fehlt hier also einiges, aber die die enthalten sind, sind mit der CD identisch, wenn auch in anderer Reihenfolge, da man hier die März- und April-Sessions durcheinander gewürfelt hat, was vorher etwas sortierter war.

Vielen Dank. Das ist ja auch nur folgerichtig. Ich war nur kurz irritiert, bzw. wollte sichergehen, da mich a) das Cover und b) der Titel der Vinylausgabe verunsichert hatten.




Denn so sieht meine FTD "Elvis is back!" nicht aus!

Und sie heißt auch nicht "Elvis is back!" Sessions! Also ich habe nur die ganz normale "Elvis is back!" aus der Classic Album Reihe...

Ja, klar. Für eine LP ist das sicherlich zuviel Material, weswegen wir hier auch nur Outtakes bekommen und keinerlei Master. Bei der "Pot Luck" war das ja auch so. Die LP-Ausgabe nannte sich ebenfalls "The Pot Luck Sessions". Auch da war das Cover nicht identisch zur CD-Ausgabe.

Ja, das ist die Lösung, wenn aus Platzgründen die Master fehlen, also somit das Orginalalbum, dann nennt FTD die Ausgabe:"Sessions" ...so ein alternatives Cover juckt den Sammler dann ja schon etwas...aber ich bleibe hart und sage: "Nein!" zu neuem Vinyl....

Schade nur, dass dann trotzdem noch Takes fehlen, die wir auf der CD-Ausgabe bekommen, somit ist die LP also auch in Sachen Outtakes nicht vollständig. Wenn man dann noch bedenkt, was die Händler inzwischen für die Vinyl-FTDs verlangen, ist das Ganze eh nicht sonderlich erstrebenswert. Das ist wirklich nur was für die ganz konsequenten Sammler.

Neu, ist es nicht, aber auch nicht die Regel. Es trifft, soviel ich weiß, bisher nur auf die "Viva Las Vegas" und die "The Pot Luck Sessions" zu. Die "Jungle Room Sessions" ist bis auf einen versetzten Schriftzug covertechnisch mit der CD-Ausgabe identisch, ist aber kein Original-Album. Bei den erstgenannten und auch bei der nun kommenden "Elvis Is Back Sessions" wurde hingegen ein anderes Motiv verwendet. Die "The Pot Luck Sessions" und die "Elvis Is back Sessions" sind somit die beiden einzigen Alben, die es seinerzeit im Original gab, die als FTD-CD veröffentlicht wurden, die man nun als LP mit dem Zusatz "Sessions" versehen hat, die keine Master enthalten und bei denen man vermutlich deswegen auch ein anderes Coverbild verwendete. Da steckt also schon ein System dahinter. Und darum ging es TheKing und mir doch bei der Unterhaltung. Ich frag mich also, was Du nun daran schon wieder auszusetzen hast, zumal Du anscheinend gar nicht kapiert hast, worum es uns ging.
