Wobei er vorher aber schon mehrfach gecovert wurde. Von Rufus Thomas und Freddie Bell and the Bell Boys (an deren Version sich Elvis orientierte).

Eigentlich hat "Hound Dog" ja einen "Frauentext", deshalb sang Rufus Thomas den Song mit neuem Text, und der Titel wurde in "Bear Cat" geändert.

Freddie Bell und Elvis ließen vom ursprünglichen Text ein paar Zeilen weg, sonst hätte das ganze einen leicht homo-erotischen Touch gehabt.

am 13.09.08 wurde in indianola (der geburtsort vom blues baby ) ein sehr interessantes museum ihm zu ehren eröffnet. wir haben es uns kurz ansehen dürfen auf unserer südstaatenreise (leider hatten wir wieder viel zu wenig zeit :traurig:)

Es geht um den Song: "Fool, Fool, Fool".

Ahmet Ertegün, ein geb. Türke der 1935 in die USA auswanderte, war Mitbegründer der Atlantic Records. Er nahm unter Anderem Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett und Otis Redding, unter Vertrag.
Unter dem Pseudonym: A. Nugetre, schrieb er auch selbst einige Songs. "Fool, Fool, Fool" war für The Clovers 1951 ein Hit.

Ich liebe diesen alten Bluestitel. Schön, dass sie hier einmal gewürdigt werden.

Gelesen habe ich mal, dass Elvis posthum einen Award von irgendeiner Blues-Association dafür bekam, "dass er den Blues in seiner Karriere gepflegt hat". O-Ton war, glaube ich: "...keeping the blues alive during his career."

Sehr interessant finde ich die Gegenüberstellung der Blues-Titel original gesungen und von Elvis gecovert. Hier hört man meiner Meinung nach ganz deutlich, dass Elvis die Songs auf seine ganz eigene Art sang und den Liedern gesangsmäßig seinen "Stempel" aufdrückte. Das ist schon bemerkenswert.

Nicht umsonst ist er der einzige Künstler, der in der "Hall of Fame" in 3 Kategorien vertreten ist: Rock 'n' Roll, Country u. Gospel.
