Elvis Like Any Other Soldier - New book preview

    as posted on FECC:

I recently received a preview copy of the new Army book “Elvis Like Any Other Soldier” by Jerry Osborne & Barbara Hahn
for which I provided some photo's from my Spearhead Collection. Though the timeline for official release did not allow more time
to date all photo's correctly I am still very impressed with the end result:

Over 500 pages (!) with 1500 photo's (many never seen before) with great detail behind many photo's!

Unlike many other Army releases, this book is not only about Elvis in Germany, but covers his entire army period. You will find
many rare private candid's from soldiers and sergeants who actually served with Elvis who also shared many firsthand stories
in this book. It also includes a few more unseen candids of Janie Wilbanks, the girl Elvis invited to Germany after they briefly
met in Memphis. There are also some great photo's from a platoon party from early 1959 with Margit Buergin being present.

The highlight of the book is a recently found box of color photos from Grafenwhör. Though not of best quality, color candids are
a true rarity ! You will even find photo's of Elvis in Weiden (which is only 15 miles of the Czech Republic), which actually puts an
end to the discussion if and when Elvis visited Weiden. But there are so many more photo's and stories to enjoy, see sample
    page below.

Is the book perfect ? No. there are many incorrect dates....however, given the time pressure to release this book in time, many
fans will be glad to enjoy the many new photo's and many interesting background stories and therefore the book is an highly
recommended release and simply the best publication about Elvis Army day's so far.(4 out of 5 stars)

The book is planned to be released end of August. However a limited quantity will be available at Elvis week:
    Friday, August 13, 2010
    2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
    Graceland Plaza.
Jerry Osborne and Barbara Hahn will be on hand to sign copies of their new book, "Elvis: Like Any Other Soldier."

The army photo's that the author of Elvis Files 3 sent to me are different from this release. Assuming that existing copyrights are respected there will be no double photo's.

The first Army phyiscal was in Memphis on Jan 4th 1957 and is also covered in the book.

More photo's and stories in the second edition / volume

wer im FECC angemeldet ist, kann sich wegen der bezugsquelle direkt an eine der autorinnen wenden.
hier ein posting von heute und eine mail, die ich gestern von ihr bekommen habe

..yet Jerry still managed to keep the price below $50.
We realize it's quite costly to pay shipping to Europe so we would like to help the European Elvis fans outside of England. Anyone in the UK can get one of these books from Chris Giles at a good price and I'm sure you all know Chris. He is your source for "Elvis Like Any Other Soldier."
Anyone in Scandinavia can contact us directly and if you mention the FECC Forum we'll give you a special discount. Also, we'd like you to know that the same box we use to ship one book will hold two of the books at NO extra cost Priority Mail International Flat Rate Medium box holds one or two books for the same price.
So why not get two, one for you and one for a friend and split the shipping costs. For about $10 more you can get three books in one (Priority Mail International Flat Rate Large) box and then you and two friends can get a book and pay even less for shipping to Europe when split three ways.

                              Hi,
I saw your note on the FECC. We can't do anything about the shipping
outside the U.S., it is quite costly but out of our control.
One thing I would suggest is getting two or even three books and sharing the shipping
costs with a friend, or two.
We will give you a special FECC discount of 20% on the books and that may help you in the total cost.
We will sign the books for you if you'd like and include a few extra gifts for you.
