Schau was Bill Burk dazu sagt.
As the "Elvis" writer for the old Memphis Press-Scimitar (a beat I had for 26+ years) . . . had ANYTHING Elvis-related been headed into Federal Court (or any other court) on 15 August (or on any other day), that beat's reporter would have notified me and the city editor and I would have been assigned to that hearing to report on it. I was never told anything in 1977 about Operation Fountain Pen. Then my friend Gail Brewer Giorgio's "Is Elvis Alive" came out and all of a sudden Operation Fountain Pen was the hottest story ever in history involving Elvis. He was to have testified on 16 August, she said. Instead, the DEA slipped him out the back of Graceland in a helicopter into the Witness Protection Program. In FACT, in the 2nd printing of her book, GBG had ME flying Elvis from Memphis International Airport to Hawaii after the DEA helicopter delivered him to me! Well, I got on the phone and I called the U. S. District Judge who would have had that case, had there been one. He knew nothing of it. (He was a golf friend of mine, so he would not have lied to me.) I called the U. S. District Attorney (whose father I had played high school baseball for and who I had known since he was a kid). HE knew nothing of OFPen and HE would never have lied to me. THEN I called the director of the FBI's Memphis office (yet another close friend) and HE said Elvis was not to have appeared in court on or about 16 August ... and he would have known. I don't know what the FBI files reveal today, but I had access to them in 1987 and read all 800 pages of them and found them to be most boring. OFPen was included in that, but all that was was a shiest, Freddie Pro and his boys getting a lot of money from Vernon (Elvis' money, of course) on a Boeing 707 deal (NOT a LearJet, as reported here in this thread this week). Next, about the many Elvis calls to Jimmy Carter on 15 August. Hey, GANG, Elvis SLEPT until about sundown! THAT's recorded! And how do we know it was Elvis who supposedly made those calls, if any were made, in that there are several phones in Graceland and anyone could have used any one of them to make a call. And in those days Ma Bell did not have computer tracking on calls (and I have checked and verified this with the Ma Bell boss here at that time and for years after, then checking on the supposed Ginger Alden calls to the National Enquirer <which SHE never made!>). PLUS . . . Carter himself has said/written that in the latter days, knowing of Elvis' Rx condition, he never allowed Elvis to get thru to him. Is Carter lying? (I know, I know -- every time any politician moves his mouth, he's lying, but . . .) I can assure one and all that contrary to what GBG wrote, I did not fly Elvis to Hawaii that afternoon. I was recording my radio show at WMPS at 3 p.m. and there were witnesses. I played golf at McKellar Park 3:30 to about 6 and there were witnesses. I had dinner about 7:30 with Humphrey Folk of Folk's Folly. I was on the scene at Graceland at 9 p.m. and was there thruout the night until about 4 the next morning and there were 1000s of witnesses. BUT . . . now let me move off to the side and get bushwacked by the Conspiracy Theorists who will die believing Elvis is their next door neighbor today . . . and by those who lie in wait for anyone who ever actually knew Elvis to DARE come on here and report FACTS !!! 007 -- ****************** Bill E. Zitat:
