Moon's take:
>> You know what, there are specifics but quite frankly I'm really not

interested in wasting time on Guralnick. Suffice it to say I'm not an
admirer of his and his writing and journalism ethics suck.

In MY case, I am on a 24-hr. deadline to get my magazine from the printers
and begin the 3-day process of addressing and mailing them to readers in all
50 States and 92 countries.

And about the time I get that done, and my 2004 taxes done, my new book,
ELVIS AARON PRESLEY: A CANDLE IN THE WIND, should be arriving and I need to
begin mailing some 700 copies to fans all around the world ... BEFORE ... we
take 2 weeks off and slide over to Denmark to see Connie's folks.

BUT QUICKLY:

I had no problem with "Last Train." Fact is, we were researching our book,
EARLY ELVIS: THE TUPELO YEARS, at that time and each Sunday night, as we got
in from Tupelo after a weekend of digging folks out of the woodworks (many
who had never been interviewed before) . . . Mr. Peter Guralnick, then
writing LAST TRAIN, would telephone me and give me a list of questions he
wanted ME to research for him during the coming week. This went on for
weeks and I was impressed with his attention to detail.

THEN, IN BETWEEN BOOKS, he became The Weasel.

First, he accepted a $50,000 advance from EPE to do a book for them AFTER he
released CARELESS LOVE. I felt, what with CL covering the drug period, he
might be compromising his integrity for the advance $$$ . . . and I
scheduled a breakfast with him and called him on it. He swore to me he
would "tell it like it is," but I felt, in looking back, he gave in to the
temptation of $$$s.

His "research" was no more than taking excerpts from enough books that he
had an 89-page bibliography in the back. 89 PAGES.

Damn, man. Some BOOKS are not 89 pages long !!

And IN there was a story The Weasel totally lifted from my book, ELVIS: THRU
MY EYES, changed the story, eliminated ME from this story (and this was MY
collection of MY experiences with Elvis!!) ... and never even credited the
source of that story in his 89 pages of "research" sources.

I called him on THAT, as well, and he said he had taken that story from the
Commercial Appeal newspaper.
1. The CA was not even AT Graceland on that day.
2. The CA never printed that story.
3. Even if they had, he didn't credit them, either.
4. He has not, to this moment, admitted he stole that story from my book;
and has never apologized for the Grand Theft.

His treatment of Tom Parker in CL was SO soft-soaped and could that be
because about that time EPE was buying Parker's collection and has plans of
one day displaying them, so we don't want to make Parker out as the Bad Guy
that he actually was.

As I said, I am on very tight deadline. This is but the start.

To me, The Weasel can make it on his own. He certainly has his friends to
promote him, but a growing number of authors I know whose books he has
"researched" are now turning their backs on him, or so they have told me.

You reap what you sow.
