Today, September 22th, we remember the fact that 50 years ago Elvis left for Germany to begin his German 'tour of duty'. Shortly after loosing his mother this must have been hard for him, leaving his country and friends behind. He does however meet Charlie Hodge, who will become a lifelong friend. During the last interview he expresses just how he feels about leaving his fans behind; “Despite the fact that I’ll be out of their sight, I hope I’m not out of their minds. And I’ll be looking forward to the time when I can come back and entertain again like I did.” On Wednesday october 1st at 8:46 A.M. the USS Randall arrives at Bremerhaven, where he is met by 1500 fans and an army of press members.
