The Million Dollar Quartet - 50th Anniversary Edition
 

2006 marks the 50th Anniversary of several historic moments in the early career of Elvis Presley. One of them is the informal jam session with Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis at Sun Studios on December 4th 1956. Johnny Cash was only featured on the photo of the performers who became known as the "Million Dollar Quartet". To mark the 50th Anniversary, Charley Records will be releasing a special edition 2CD set.

Disc one features 41 tracks from the actual session, while disc two conatins 32 classic Sun recordings from Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis

Na endlich haben sie mal "Reconsider baby" mit draufgepackt ! Bin gespannt !
Aber warum haben sie auf der zweiten so...naja....traditionelle Jerry-Nummern getan und nicht so viel Rock'n'Roll?

Übrigens behauptete Cash bis zum Schluss, dass er mitgesungen hat auf den Aufnahmen, nur in einer sehr hohen Stimme. Ich glaube auch, dass er anwesend ist, da man Elvis an einem Punkt (ich glaube vor "Jericho road") etwa ähnliches sagen hört wie "take johnny cash to this"
Carl Perkins(RIP) nach, existieren in Sam Phillips (RIP) Besitz noch etwa 1 1/2 Stunden aus diesen Sessions.

aber eigentlich bin ich in dem fall eher auf die 2te cd neugierig

eigentlich bin ich neugierig, ob die angeblich existenten Aufnahmen mit Cash noch mal ans Licht der Welt kommen :roll:

Ich glaube das die Mikros einfach scheiße aufgestellt waren.

"Reconsider baby" wurde '92 auf dem "King of Rock'n'Roll"-Boxset veröffentlicht. Ich würd gerne wissen, wer da das Klavier spielt. Elvis oder Jerry Lee? Für Elvis hats n paar viele "professionelle" Züge und für Jerry klingts zu ruhig....:gruebel:

@cat: Es war ja auch nur eine Jam Session. Die Mikros wurden so übernommen, wie sie bei der vorangegangenen Perkins-Session waren. Da aber alle nur um das Klavier rumsaßen, hat natürlich alles in das Mikro reingeblendet, welches fürs Piano aufgebaut wurde. Ich finde, dass der Sound für die Verhältnisse echt gut ist....:-)

Ich stimme ihm zu. Wartet auf die BMG/FTD SUN Box. :cool:

This is a lazy, weak release from a label that should know better, given some of their crucial SUN releases through the years. To wit:

They missed a chance to officially release the material in proper chronological order for the first time ever.

They failed to include the bits of MDQ material than BMG put out in 1992 (50s box) and 2002 (TT&F box).

They didn't even properly credit the bit of "Too Much Monkey Business" or title "Black Bottom Stomp" (erroneously called "Jerry's Boogie").

The second CD seems lacklustre, almost filler, save the Presley SUN tracks.

Yes, wait for the BMG/FTD issue, it'll be excellent quality and hopefully rectify all the errors noted above. If Ernst is the producer, I'd bet on it.
