RCA/Legacy Recordings Releases Musical Companion To Documentary April 6

The HBO documentary ELVIS PRESLEY: THE SEARCHER debuts SATURDAY, APRIL 14 (8:00–11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.

This three-hour, two-film presentation focuses on Elvis Presley the musical artist, taking the audience on a comprehensive creative journey from his childhood through the final 1976 Jungle Room recording sessions. The films include stunning atmospheric shots taken inside Graceland, Elvis’ iconic home, and feature more than 20 new, primary source interviews with session players, producers, engineers, directors and other artists who knew him or who were profoundly influenced by him. The documentary also features never-before-seen photos and footage from private collections worldwide, and includes an original musical score composed by Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready.

As previously announced by SXSW, Priscilla Presley, David Porter (legendary Memphis music writer and producer), Thom Zimny (director), Jon Landau (producer) and moderator John Jackson (SVP A&R, Sony Music) will discuss the film, the cultural impact of Elvis’ music and how that impact became the embodiment of rock’n’roll at the 2018 SXSW Festival in March. The panel is expected to cover:

• how Elvis found inspiration in black and white gospel music of Tupelo
• his early experience with the great African-American blues and r’n’b of Memphis
• his evolution as an artist with Sam Phillips
• the creative impact of his time serving in the U.S. Army in Germany
• the creative highs and lows of his career in the 1960s, culminating in the triumphant ’68 special
• an assessment of Elvis as a performing artist in the early ’70s, featuring a discussion of Jon Landau‘s seminal 1971 review of Elvis in concert
• a discussion of the interviews conducted for the film, including insights into the conversations with Scotty Moore, Red West, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, among others
• insight into the creation of the film’s score by Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready
• an inquiry into the artistic and personal struggles that preceded his death in 1977

Synopsis:

Fans of the King will get an unprecedentedly deep look at his life and music, from his first forays into Memphis blues clubs to his early stardom, up through his late '60s comeback and exhausting '70s touring. The nearly three-and-a-half-hour-long, two-part documentary (which will also get a soundtrack released through Sony/Legacy) features new interviews with scholars, stars like Bruce Springsteen and the late Tom Petty, and -- most notably -- Priscilla Presley, who famously met the superstar when she was 14 and was married to him from 1967 to 1973.

Kann man glaube ich über Sky -Deutschland empfangen.

Die cd dazu wird kommen... vielleicht wie bei Elvis by the Presleys auch als dvd... es werden aber bestimmt aufmerksame leute geben die das alles aufnehmen und anbieten, war ja auch so in England mit der nations favourite Elvis songs special :cool:

Jerry Schilling hat am letzten Wochenende in Wien gross Werbung für das Projekt gemacht. Er erwähnte, dass einiges an unveröffentlichtem Materiel zu sehen sei. Unter anderem erwähnte er auch die Aufnahmen zu "Always On My Mind", welche auch bei Elvis On Tour zu sehen sind. Ob da wirklich neues Material zu sehen ist bleibt abzuwarten...

Eines verstehe ich dabei nicht:

Hier sieht man, angeblich, in der Doku Aufnahmen von On Tour, wieso wird dann so ein Bahö bei einer Veröffentlichung von On Tour Material gemacht ??? :roll:

Offiziell gibt es das halt noch nicht, als Bootleg haben wir es aber schon Jahre, Glen.

Warten wir es ab, es wird ja zu einer DVD Veröffentlichung kommen, dann sehen wir weiter.

Ich meinte eine offizielle Veröffentlichung, liebe Darky, da gibt es anscheinend Probleme; und wenn da in dieser Doku unveröffentlichtes Material von On Tour zu sehen ist, verstehe ich nicht, wieso nicht eine offizielle DVD Veröffentlichung mit unveröffentlichtem Material kommt.

Ne, da muss ich dich enttäuschen! Da steht nur, dass es den 'Soundtrack' geben wird. Von der Doku auf DVD ist keine Rede.

Owa jo, ähnlich wie bei " Elvis by the Presleys ", erst im Fernsehen, dann auch auf DVD. ;-)

Es ist nur eine Vermutung, Glen. Im ersten Posting steht definitiv nur, dass eine CD mit der Musik der Doku veröffentlicht wird. Deswegen schrieb ich ja auch, dass ich hoffe, dass es die Doku irgendwann auf DVD geben wird.

Trifft das nicht auch auf die LP zu? Drei Songs auf der B-Seite der 2.LP :gruebel:

Das mit der Doppel CD haut, so schaut es für mich aus, auch nicht richtig hin.

Da hat eine CD eine Spiellänge von knapp über 30 Minuten.

Ist es möglich, dass die Interviews der Doku mit drauf sind, und nicht gelistet wurden?


Die LP wird jetzt auch bei jpc angekündigt.

Das wäre in der Tat mal ein Grund, etwas wirklich bisher Unveröffentlichtes rauszubringen. :noidea:

Es kann sich dabei nur um Videoaufnahmen handeln, Audio glaube ich nicht, da wird schon FTD herhalten müssen.

Diverse Dokus zurückliegenden Jahrzehnts -ob hier im Blauen überhaupt wahrgenommen, oder auch nicht- beinhalteten auch keinerlei Unveröffentlichtes. Warum auch?

Ich hoffe, dass zumindest Videoaufnahmen, private Filme oder Ähnliches in dieser Doku zu sehen sind, die es bisher nicht zu sehen gab.

Nur haben Leute wie eben Schilling oder auch Esposito diese schon auf diversen Videos der 80er und 90er Jahre gezeigt.

Denkst du nicht, dass da noch unveröffentlichtes Bildmaterial da ist, zum Beispiel von Priscilla, welches auch verwendet werden könnte !?

Ich glaube viele sehen in dieser Doku etwas was es aber nicht ist. Diese wird gemacht für den ganz normalen Massenmarkt u. nicht für den absoluten Elvis Freak. Dementsprechend ist die Songauswahl u. auch das Bild Material.

Doch natürlich! So wie auch ganz sicher noch nicht am Markt befindliche (private) Konzertmitschnitte existieren. Ich weiß aber eben nur nicht, warum man gerade hier deren Veröffentlichung erwartet.

Und wenn es so ist wie bei " Elvis by the Presleys ", gespickt mit unveröffentlichtem Bildmaterial !?

War denn auf der CD Veröffentlichung von " Elvis by the Presleys " unveröffentlichtes Material zu finden, ich kann mich nicht mehr genau daran erinnern ???

Die im Übrigen bis dato letzte veröffentlichte Doku -hier im Blauen nicht thematisiert- sieht so aus:

(Auch) an dieser Stelle sei mal wieder darauf verwiesen, dass sich HBO bereits am 5. Januar 1985 -ja, somit genau vor 33 Jahren- in Sachen ELVIS verdient machte und ONE NIGHT WITH YOU erstmals im TV sendete. Spezielle LP-Veröffentlichung (RCA Special Products DVM1-0704) des Soundtracks ELVIS (TV SPECIAL) inklusive.
