Alright, Okay, You Win

Since the late 70s, there were rumours that the tour opening in College Park was a complete disaster - one of the worst Elvis concerts ever. This rumour was first published in Jerry Hopkins' book, and it was repeated in various publications so many times that almost nobody had any doubt. In 2006, Straight Arrow released a CD called "CHAOS IN COLLEGE PARK" which was an eye-opener, and proof that it was rather decent concert with some fine performances, too.
According to several books, the Detroit, MI, September 29th, 1974 afternoon performance was another of the most controversial Elvis Presley events. In a recent book, "DAY BY DAY", it's said that Elvis was on stage for 30 minutes only, giving his worst concert of the tour.
In August, Straight Arrow obtained a bunch of tapes, among them a 1st generation copy of a previously unknown audience recording of this Detroit concert. The producers decided to release this particular recording because it is an interesting show in good sound quality. Will another myth be shattered? Is the show as bad as its reputation? Judge for yourself. It's worth pointing out that the running time is about an hour, and not 30 minutes.
As you've come to expect from Straight Arrow, the tape was completely restored for your enjoyable listening. The disc is accompanied with a deluxe 16-page booklet, including critical liner notes and a collection of photos taken in Detroit on Sept. 29th, October 4th and in South Bend on September 30th, 1974. "Alright, Okay, You Win" will be released in early October.

Schon mal eine recht interessante Setlist. Elvis hält sich nicht lange mit neuem Material auf, sondern legt sich echt ins Zeug mit den guten alten Klassikern. Sogar Hound Dog wird noch mal erwähnt...muß man aber auch definitiv :grins:. Könnte in der Tat eine nicht sehr lange Show sein. Aber ich will noch gar nicht urteilen, erstmal die CD abwarten. Bin bei den September/Oktober-Shows sowieso nicht so sicher, was ich davon halten soll...aber immer her mit "the worst concert of the king" (nach Madison und Omaha kaum möglich).

Tape bekommen? Schon lustig wie einige Bootlegger Sachen auslegen. Die Show ist vor kurzem bei Dimeadozen.org im Flac-Format aufgetaucht. Würde mich doch sehr stark wundern, wenn es eine andere Source wäre. Ist vielleicht auch zweitrangig, weil von irgendwo her müssen die Jungs die Sachen schließlich bekommen. Interessant wird sein, wie sie die Jungs von Straight Arrow mit dem extrem lauten Applaus umgegangen sind. Das wird eine echte Herausforderung für die Audiobearbeitung...

Urteilen kann man jetzt schon, der neue Download ( ah sorry, ich meine das neue Band welches SA aufgetrieben hat :grins:) ist ja schon länger überall herumgegeistert ;-)
Die Soundqualität ist nicht unbedingt berauschend, aber alles in allem brauchbar und die Show ist weder negativ noch positiv besonders hervorstechend für Herbst ´74 :noidea:

Da ich Downloads (welch böses Wort :grins:) gerne umgehe, werde ich geduldig auf die CD warten. :-)

..ämmm bei "Alright, Okay, You Win" das auf der FTD CD "Dragonheart" drauf ist handelt es sich doch auch um eine SB aufnahme oder !?:gruebel:

..war eigentlich nur eine frage burro !!:-)

wäre die version auf der ftd eine AR gewesen, wär die SB-aufnahme, die wir von SA als bonus bekommen, wohl eine ziemliche überraschung gewesen :eek: :grins:
