mir ist bekannt, dass BOB DYLAN in diesem forum wenig freunde hat, trotzdem möchte ich auf seine wöchentliche radioshow hinweisen, die seit anfang mai beim satellitenradio "xm radio" on air ist.
dylan spielt darin keine eigene musik, sondern seine lieblingssongs zu wechselnden themen: weather, mother, drinking, baseball, coffee, jail, father, wedding, divorce - und diese woche summer.
zu hören gibt's vorwiegend (aber nicht nur!) musik aus den 40ern & 50ern, viel r&b, country, soul, blues, rockabilly, doo wop etc. zwischen den songs erzählt dylan auf seine ganz spezielle art stories und anekdoten zu den songs, spielt passende filmausschnitte, rezitiert songtexte und beantwortet hörer-emails. auf die frage, warum er in der show so viele alte songs spielt und so wenige neue, antwortete er einmal trocken: "there's just so much more old songs than new ones".
nicht nur werden hier vergessene musiken wieder zu gehör gebracht, sondern auch eine verloren geglaubte radiotradition wird wiederbelebt.
begeisterte hörer vergleichen dylan als radio-dj bereits mit wolfman jack.
essentiell für alle, die sich für die große amerikanische musiktradition interessieren und begeistern (und eine ahnung bekommen wollen, welche magie einmal vom medium radio ausging).

gerade bei "lay lady lay" glaube ich immer elvis durchzuhören. ich hab da so meine kleine privattheorie, dass dylan den song mit elvis im hinterkopf geschrieben hat. wäre in perfekter song für elvis gewesen, aber leider...

"rockabilly is a poor man's big band."

naja, ich hatte den thread eigentlich schon aufgegeben, da sich hier schon spinnweben gebildet haben (ähnlich wie in meinem westernthread).
aber wenn was elvisrelevantes auftaucht, erwähne ich es schon.

anyway, es geht bei diesen radioshows gar nicht so sehr um dylan selbst (obwohl seine art der präsentation unvergleichlich ist), sondern eher um die geniale musik, die er spielt.
